World Humus Restoration Day

We celebrate our Humus

The soil needs our attention!

Soil fertility is rapidly declining on our doorstep and around the world. This is mainly due to the fact that we have lost touch with the soil, no longer understand its needs, and consequently fail to treat it properly. What is alarming is that almost all our food comes from the soil.

Sustainably fertile soil is the foundation of all higher life forms. It is from this soil that the plant matter nourishing humans and animals is derived. Therefore, all life on earth depends on the fertility of this layer of living soil, which is usually only 30 centimeters thick. Our healthy diet can only be assured if fertile soils guarantee sustainable plant yields. Additionally, soil is the planet’s second-largest carbon reservoir, after the oceans, and is therefore vital for the climate.

To prepare the soil for future generations, we need to redefine our relationship with it and understand its needs. The soil may not reveal itself to us emotionally and visibly like a suffering animal, but we can connect with it through our conscience.

It is our duty to be kind to our soil,

recognizing it as a living being in its own right. By giving it our love and attention, we can help the soil become awar of itself.

Soil is our greatest pharmacy!

Our best catalyst.
Healthy, happy microorganisms are our best allies for good health! Earthworms are our greatest humus builders! When the soil is healthy, human beings are healthy.

What we buy and what we eat matters!

It matters not just for us, but also for the soil. Every purchasing decision we make determines what will be sown and planted in the future. Over the past 70 years, we have destroyed more than 50% of our fertile soil through monoculture, chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides. However, did you know that humans are capable of rebuilding in just 5 to 25 years what nature alone would take hundreds of years to accomplish?

To pay tribute to the soil in the way it deserves, we invite you to participate in various individual actions that will be presented on the World Humus Restoration Day telegram group (https://t.me/+seSnEhyonw5mMzZk).

The World Humus Restoration Day

On July 23, the World Humus Restoration Day invites us – whether we have a garden or not – to dedicate a moment to our fertile soil, to the people who cultivate it, to the life within the soil, to microorganisms, earthworms, and fungi. Whether it’s…

becoming aware of the soil

planting a tree, shrub, or flower

creating a compost

establishing a small vegetable garden

giving it our mental attention

reading a book about fertile soil

seeking contact with agriculture in our vicinity

taking off our shoes and consciously walking barefoot in fields and forests

expressing gratitude for our farmers and market gardeners who cultivate the land for us

exploring the location of a farm store

singing to the soil or playing an instrument for it

coming together on the ground and practicing circular cultivation

preparing a special festive meal with fresh fruits and vegetables and inviting family and friends to join

organizing a Humus Festival

watching a film about soil

By reconnecting with our own inner soil: our mucous membranes, our microbiota.

When we take care of fertile humus with our hands and hearts,

as humans, we contribute to spreading the abundance and love of

Mother Earth. Peace becomes possible from this shared abundance.

It is our soil that nourishes all life on earth, and it too is alive! In a handful of soil,
there are more living beings than humans on our planet.

Each one of us, along with our families, schools, and communities, can make a difference by consciously nourishing ourselves, knowing where our food comes from, and always paying special attention to building our humus. July 23 is a unique moment for the world to make a conscious commitment to our soil and to be its advocate.

Let’s make a contribution. Let’s do what we can.

It’s no longer just about you or me. It’s about all of us. It’s about ALL living beings. It’s about our health! And healthy means healthy soil!
